A city with a long history
Mandy had to go to Magdeburg because of a scholarship for her studies and so I used the chance to explore the city with Mandys parents. Magdeburg is a beautiful german city located by the Elbe river. To the most interesting places we could walk to, because the city isn’t so big. We loved the landmark Magdeburger Cathedral which is over 800 years old. The cloister is pretty and a good place to have a break. There were offered guidances but unfortunately we had no time to do one.
Green citadel – the different kind of house
The green citadel was very impressive. The house was designed and built by the artist Hundertwasser. The most special about the pink house is that every single flat has an own tree in it. In the inner yard of the house were many cute aviaries – so many that it sets a world record. We did a very interesting tour through the house. This was one of the last projects of the famous architect Hundertwasser. He designed the house so that nobody have to leave it because there is a doctor, a supermarket, a cinema and much more in it which was a very interesting idea. It took 2 years to build it and was finished in 2005.
Jahrtausendturm in Elbauenpark – the highest wood house of the world
The second day Mandy had time to join us and we decided to visit the Jahrtausendturm. We haven’t had big expectations about it and thought that it is a simple wood building. When we arrived there we were very surprised to explore 6.000 years of technique and science history. It was really interesting because there were many things to experience and try out. We can definitely recommend this but you should bring time to enjoy everything.
