Dresden and Saxony Switzerland

Luca planned a short trip from Friday to Monday for us. I had no idea where we will go to and was very excited. We picked up our rental car at noon and started our drive. When we saw signs on the freeway I began to guess where we will drive to. After half of the way I guessed it will be Dresden and I was right.

The gardens and foundations of Zwinger

We stayed in a very beautiful Suite of the Pullman Hotel with view on the old town of Dresden. The day after we arrived we took a walk through the city and visited the Zwinger, one of the most famous baroque buildings of Germany. It is very huge and has a beautiful yard in it. There were many beautiful green areas and fountains. In the building of the Zwinger are museums and galleries.

We had booked a kind of horror-tour through the city to learn more about its history. This tour could not meet our expectations because it should be horror and funny at the same time but it was not our sense of humor.

The highlights of Dresden – between Semperoper and Frauenkirche

For the next day we had booked a tour through the famous Semperoper Dresden. We can definitely recommend this tour because you learn so much about the history of it. The guide explained everything very interesting. To see the opera hall was very impressive for us and we enjoyed the whole time in the Semperoper.

Another popular highlight of Dresden is a church called „Dresdener Frauenkirche“. It is a Lutheran church and a baroque building as well. It looked very impressive from outside and so we decided to go in there and take a look. The church is also really huge, glamorous and beautiful inside and worth a visit. The last attraction we visited was the „Fürstenzug“ (Procession of Princes). It is a picture of cavalcade brushed on 23.000 tiles and the biggest porcelain painting of the world.

The magic of Saxony Switzerland in autumn

In the end of our trip to Dresden we decided to enjoy the last day in the Saxony Switzerland. We are so happy that we did this adventure. There was so much beautiful nature and we loved particularly the huge woods. As it was autumn all the trees had so beautiful leaf colours. We can recommend visiting the Saxony Switzerland and especially the Bastei Bridge. From a mountain on the other side we had a great view on it. We walked over the bridge which leaded through a rock formation. On the other side of the bridge is a famous ruin of the „Felsenburg Neurathen“ which is a huge medieval rock castle. This place is one of the most beautiful we have ever visited.

The last point we visited before we drove home was Moritzburg. That is a castle which was a hunting chateau builded under August dem Starkem. Around the castle is a beautiful garden and an artificially created palace pond.
